It is hockey season again and that means it is time to consider which tournaments to enter in 2017-18.  We hope your team will select the Victoria Playmakers Tournament and join us in Victoria, B.C. March 20 to March 24, 2018 for our twenty-ninth annual tournament. The Playmakers Tournament is dedicated to players 55 years of age and over.  There will be 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+ and 80+ age divisions. This is a participation tournament with a format of 3 games per team. Games will again consist of two periods of 22 minutes stop time. All games are played at G. R. Pearkes Arena, 3100 Tillicum Road, Victoria, B.C.

The total number of teams for the tournament has been set at 48.  Again this year, a deposit is not required, but teams are encouraged to notify the Tournament Registrar by email by 12 December 2017 if they intend to participate.  You are encouraged to register on-line via the Team Registration Tab.  If you prefer, you can print the form, fill it in, and submit by mail to the Tournament Registrar (mailing address is on the entry form). The tournament registration fee is $950.00 Canadian and the full amount, payable by e-transfer (preferred) or cheque,  must be received by the Registrar by 12 January 2018. Make cheques payable to Victoria Playmakers. Those choosing to pay by e-transfer can find the necessary instructions on the e-Transfer Instructions Tab.  It is emphasized that if payment has not been received by 12 January 2018, your team will not be participating.  As payment is often sent by mail, allow sufficient time prior to the deadline. The schedule will be finalized and posted on the tournament website by 2 February 2018. Due to the limited number of teams you should register and submit registration fees early to guarantee a spot.  Refunds, minus a $250 processing fee, will be provided for teams that notify the Registrar by 12 January 2018 that they are withdrawing.  After 2 February 2018, when the Schedule is posted, there will be no refunds as the ice contracts are set and player gifts Purchased.

Please note that players wishing to play in any age division, who do not have a team, can enter individually and be placed on the spares list. Again, you are encouraged to register online using the Spares Registration Form, which can be found on the Spares Tab.  You may also print a copy and mail the completed form to the Spares Coordinator (mailing address is on the entry form).  There is no charge to register as a spare. When and if the player is assigned to a team, he can expect to pay that team a fee (approx $75) to offset the team entrance fee. The Spares  Coordinator will handle queries from individual players looking to spare and from team managers requiring extra players.  The Spares Coordinator is Ian Grieve: Ph. In addition to the hockey games we again plan to host our usual social events.  These will include the Welcome Night (Tuesday March 20), with snack food available, and a Banquet (Thursday March 22).  Banquet tickets (at $30.00 per person) can be reserved in advance using the online form under the Register for Banquet Tab . Banquet tickets can also be purchased at the arena during the tournament until Wednesday March 21 at 4:00 pm. Due to catering requirements, tickets cannot be purchased at the door on the evening of the banquet.

For out of town teams, partner hotels offering discounts are identified on our website. It is requested that teams book directly with partner hotels (asking for the Victoria Playmakers group rate) and not through on-line sites such as “Expedia”. Although some on-line sites may offer the same rates, if teams/individuals book directly with the hotel a small commission goes to Playmakers (for charity) as opposed to going to the booking site.  The Airline and Rental Car Tabs identify partners that offer discounts.

Please be aware that the tournament could have games scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  If your team cannot commit to playing on any of these days, please advise the Registrar by email of any days or times your team is NOT available.  We will try to accommodate you in the schedule.

Team Rosters must be submitted by 8 February, 2018 in order to prepare game sheets, waivers, and for listing in the Playmakers Program. Team Managers are to submit their rosters through the Submit Team Roster Tab or may email the information required by the form to Admin@victoriaplaymakers.ca. Please submit the roster alphabetically by last names.  We also issue “Hockey Knight in Canada” certificates during the Banquet to players participating in the tournament who are 70+ years and 80+ years of age.  Players being “Knighted” are to complete the form on the Hall of Fame Application Tab or email the information to Admin@victoriaplaymakers.ca by 8 February, 2018.  Note: A knighting certificate will only be issued to a player once in each age category.  Questions concerning the Knighting may be directed to Butch Boucher at Admin@victoriaplaymakers.ca or 1-250-658-4279 so the appropriate certificate to be issued is prepared in advance of the Banquet Ceremony.
